Resumen:
Conventional techniques used to remove nitrates from water, such as reverse osmosis, catalysis and biological processes, are relatively expensive and less efficient compared to adsorption processes1. Between the adsorbents, anionic clays, known as hydrotalcite-type compounds or lamellar double hydroxides (HDL), are highlighted1. HDL is natural anionic clay that can easily be synthesized at laboratory, they are composed of layers of hydroxides of Al and Mg with anions intercalated between the layers. The synthesis and calcination conditions can increase the specific area and the interlaminar volume and, consequently, the capacity of adsorption2. The aim of the present work was to find the best synthesis conditions for the preparation of an HDL that will be immobilized in polymer gels to be used as an adsorbent of nitrates in water.
