Resumen:
This paper reports the results of an investigation regarding the analysis of deflections in sawn timber beams of resinous pine grown in the Northeast of Argentina. The empirical project enclosed 14 dried beams loaded in indoor climate, 7 pieces of Pinus taeda and the same amount of Pinus elliottii, all of them with nominal cross-section sizes of 45 mm x 100 mm and a span length of 2.5 m. On each beam, a concentrated-load of 641N was applied. The results showed that the relative deflections obtained experimentally are congruent to the value calculated by applying the Argentinean design rules for wood construction for beams subjected to long-term loading and located in indoor climate. The comparison between P. taeda and P. elliottii creep results proved that the difference between both species behavior could be ignored for structural design purposes. Taking into account that the presence of pith significantly affects the mechanical behavior of this material, the deflections for beams with pith and free of it were compared, whose results have shown negligible differencesfor practical purposes.
