Resumen:
Natural zeolite Montanit300 was modified through different acid treatments with H2SO4 and HCl. Catalyst characterization was performed (surface area, pore size distribution, FTIR, SEM/EDX) in order to select the samples with better properties (high surface area and iron content). Comparison of the different samples was performed in Fenton-like oxidation tests of an azo-compound, Orange II, with initial pH 7 and 3, at 70ºC.The natural unmodified material presented good mineralization levels. However, iron leaching was excessive and the oxidant consumption efficiency was rather low. The acid treatment of the catalyst improved the performance in terms of stability and oxidant consumption efficiency, with a satisfactory mineralization level.
