Resumen:
Flexible polyurethane foams (FPs) are polymeric networks widely used in cushioning and furniture applications. Its versatility also makes them suitable for thermal and acoustic damping. Nowadays, the production of FPs is based on petrochemical raw materials. However, to move forward towards more eco-friendly materials, the use of polyols derived from natural sources is attractive, not only due to environmental reasons but also because of the economic benefits. In this sense, the chemical modification of vegetable oils is a promising alternative in the production of green polyols. In this work, hydroxylated methyl esters derived from tung oil (HMETO) and glycerol (GLY) as the by-product of the biodiesel production were added to the formulation. Both are multi-functional polyols that would allow modifying the crosslinking density and consequently the morphological and mechanical properties.
