Resumen:
Chitosan (a polysaccharide derived from chitin) is a polysaccharide bio-degradable, biocompatible, with antifungal and antibacterial activity. The range of applications for this natural polymer can be further broaden by using processing techniques such as electrospinning, which allows producing nonwovens mats with high porosity. Further modifications can be achieved by the addition of nanoparticles / nanofibers (NP). The aim of this work was to obtain electrospun mats with high chitosan content from concentrated acetic acid solutions. The effect of adding a high molecular weight poly(etylene oxide) (PEO) was investigated. The physico chemical parameters of the solutions (viscosity, electrical conductivity and surface tension) as well as the processing conditions (voltage, flow) were correlated to the electrospinning capabilities of the solutions. Cellulose nanocrystals were also added and the spinnability of the resulting composite chitosan/PEO solutions was also investigated
