Resumen:
Cellulose is one of the most abundant biopolymer in nature. Plants and agriculturalwastes may be used as cellulose sources following simple isolation strategies, involvingchemical treatments with low cost and the additional advantage of reducing the impact onwood consumption [1-6]. Although have reported different chemical strategies for obtainingcellulose from different sources, extraction from Cyperus alternifolius was not reported.Cyperus is a very fast growing plant, considered brushwood with application in the watertreatment. In this context, the aim of this work is to extract cellulose from this non timbersource using simple sequences and characterize the products obtained at each stage of theprocess.
