Resumen:
The behavior of a hydrogen storage prototype loaded with AB5H6 hydride, whose equilibrium pressure makes it suitable for both feeding a H2/air PEM fuel cell and being charged directly from a low pressure water electrolyzer without the need of additional compression, was studied. The nominal 70 sL hydrogen storage capacityof the prototype suffices for hydrogen delivery at 0.5 sL min-1, which allows feeding a 50 W H2/air fuel cell during 2.5 h. The storage device was characterized by monitoring the internal pressure and the temperatures of the external wall and at the center of the container at different discharge conditions in air. The response of the storage device was also tested under forced air ventilation. The system shows the best performance when the heat generated at the fuel cell is used to increase the storage device temperature allowing fuel cell operation at 150 W for 35 min with a high hydrogen flow rate of 2 sL min-1.
