Neopterin, 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-(D-erytrhro-1´,2´,3´-trihydroxypropyl)-pteridine, is a low-molecular compound synthesized from guanosine triphosphate (GTP) by macrophages. The clinical utility is like specific marker for the activation of cellular immunity.
