Up to now the genus Heraeus includes 13 species found in the Western Hemisphere and the West Indies. Poorly described species and new taxa are described and illustrated, including male genitalia. Scanning electron micrograph, general habitus photographs and maps are included for all species studied. In this contribution we describe six new species, one from the Nearctic and five from the Neotropical region, and H. cincticornis Stål is consider as junior synonym of H. elegans. In addition, two new genera are described, Bachmannia n.gen. to include H. eximius Distant and Schaeferobius n.gen. to include H. elegans Walker. H coquilletti is recorded for the first time from Guatemala, and H guttatus from Dominican Republic. A phylogenetic analysis of a matrix consisting of 23 characters by 21 taxa was performed using the program TNT, where a heuristic search with five random seeds and 50 random addition sequences using Tree Bissection Reconection algorithm for the most parsimonious trees was applied. The type species of the genera Orthaea Dallas, Myodocha Latreille, and Catenes australis Dellapé & Melo 2008 were selected as outgroups. The material examined, including types, belong to 14 entomological collections; additional material was collected by the authors in Iberá Reserve, Colonia C. Pellegrini, and in Santa María Reserve, Ituzaingó, Corrientes, Argentina.
