Resumen:
Abstract. Characterization of the rift depocentres (Precuyano Cycle) outcropping in the southwestern Neuquén Basin, Argentina. From the analysis of five different rift depocentres with deposits from the Precuyano Cycle in the southwestern Neuquén Basin, we present five conceptual models of rifting configuration. One of them consists on a volcanotectonic depression in which subsidence is controlled mainly by the volcanic activity (Model 1). There is a graben and a hemigraben with a rhomboidal geometry (models 2 and 3, respectively), a hemigraben with internal structures parallel to its margins (Model 4) and a strongly inverted hemigraben into an anticline structure (Model 5). This scheme attempts to simplify the understanding of the Neuquén Basin rifting stage during the deposition of the Precuyano Cycle.
