Resumen:
Fragmentary sometimes well-preserved Devonian land plants, have been recorded in very peculiar sequences in the Precordillera of western Argentina (Fig. 1), characterized by dark greenish–grey, mid- and fine-grained sandstones, hetherolithic facies and shales, associated with high-diversity trace fossil ichnofacies. The research project deals about the record of fossil plants (Edwards, et al., 2001 and in press) palaeoenvironment and depositional processes involved in their land-sea interaction genesis and the relevance in SW Gondwana high latitude paleogeographic position during Devonian times (Fig. 1). This is a contribution to the IGCP 499. Grants for fieldwork were received from PICT 07-10829 (ANPCYT) and PIP-CONICET 5027 projects.
