Resumen:
The understanding of stratigraphic frameworks and paleoenvironmental models constitute a key element to improve both exploration and development of oil and gas fields. A methodology that extended through a broad scale of analyses, going from regional seismic interpretation, to well log interpretation, and core and cutting characterization, allowed us to assign a carbonate-siliciclastic interval in the NE of the Neuquen Basin Platform to Intramalmic-Intravalanginian ages; additionally, this interval was defined as part of Loma Montosa Fm. The interpretation of facies associations both from core and cutting, and its vertical arrangement were used to define depositional trends, main stratigraphic surfaces, and finally develop an environmental evolution model of this cycle. The Loma Montosa Fm. in the studied zone is limited in its base by a regional transgressive surface and in its top by the Intravalanginian unconformity; at least two transgressive and one regressive lower hierarchy surfaces were also defined within this cycle. The carbonate-siliciclastic sequence assigned in this work to Loma Montosa is interpreted as a ramp or mixed shoreface with a very low structural gradient, in which grainstones deposits are defined as high energy coastal environments and could constitute a potential reservoir if adequate stimulation is applied. This would comprise a new play prospectable in a regional scale
