Resumen:
The coastal area of the town of Mar del Tuyú in Argentina, has had a poorly planned urban development, where the central beach of the tourist resort presents serious erosion problems. The objective was to assess the currentstate of the coast of the town, contrasting changes in the coastline facing the mitigation measures undertaken. In orderto achieve this, information related to the actions taken was collected in the city and in the field, and a series of aerialphotographs and satellite images was analyzed. The results show that there has been a gradual retreat of the coastlinewhich commits the buildings found in the intertidal zone. The actions undertaken from local government and from theowners, have focused on the contribution of aggregates to the beach as a dune line, or installing structures of sensorsdesigned to collect sand type. However those systems have not recovered the beach. The example analyzed shows thatcoastal management does not always arrive in time to mitigate the impacts and shows how urban development withoutplanning can have a negative impact on the tourism boost.
