Resumen:
The composite materials generated from the combination of nanoparticles and nanomaterials with proteins has been a subject of study in the last years due to the great variety of applications that these systems promise. One of the proteins that has acquired great relevance for this type of systems are the S-layer proteins, which constitute the outermost component of the cellular envelope of many bacteria and archaea. The S-layer is composed of identical subunits periodically arranged, which leads to a precise spatial distribution of sites with particular physicochemical characteristics on the surface of the protein [Sára and Sleytr, 2000]. These particular properties allow the use of the S-layer as a template for obtaining metal clusters with a narrow distribution of particle sizes [Mertig et al., 1999]. With this on mind, this work presents the preparation of Pt nanoparticles supported on S-layer/polymer particle nanosystem as a potential film forming catalyst.
