Resumen:
The aim of this study was to develop nanostructured inorganic coatings, environmentally friendly, suitable for the protection of metallic substrates. The formulation variables included binders based on lithium silicate of high molar silica / alkali ratio (7.5 / 1.0 by weight); one of them commercial, and the other a colloidal solution of nanodimensions. Another variable corresponded to the pigmentation; micrometric spherical pigments of metallic zinc alone or mixed with spherical nanoparticles of metallic zinc also in different ratios by weight were used. Finally, different values pigment volume concentration (PVC) were considered. Experimental panels were exposed in Salt Spraying (Fog) Chamber to determine the degree of rusting and in 100% Relative Humidity Cabinet to evaluate the blistering resistance; also the electrode potentials for 60 days in chloride solution sodium were established. It was concluded that the variables such alkaline silicate type, pigment composition and PVC exhibited an important influence on the anticorrosion efficiency, the best performance was achieved with the nanostructured binder and the pigmentation with nanozinc, in a wide range of PVC values.
