Oxidation of alcohols with hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by Keggin Heteropolycompounds in multiphase system

This work describes the first application of a multiphase system for the oxidation of alcohols to ketones or aldehydes with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of Keggin type heteropolyacids (HPA). The oxidation reactions were carried out using system comprising of a hydrocarbon solvent (isooctane), an aqueous phase and a phase-transfer (PT) agent (Aliquat 336 (C8H17)3CH3NCl) in the presence of a hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution and HPA catalyst. Employing this system, benzylic and secondary alcohols were oxidized to ketones or aldehydes at 70 ºC with high yield and excellent selectivity.
