Resumen:
Product of the oxidizing metabolism of bacteria of the generous Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans, reducing and acidic chemical species are formed, that are capable of reacting with thecompounds present in batteries (Mn2+, Zn2+, Co2+) where it is feasible to recover them. The aim of this work is to analyze the use of cobalt and manganese oxides, which were obtainedfrom a biohydrometallurgical process, in the catalytic abatement of a typical VOC such astoluene. This work shows that spent alkaline and Li-ion batteries can be used as raw materials toprepared different manganese oxides and/or cobalt oxides, which can be used as efficientcatalysts for the total oxidation of volatile organic compounds emissions
