Resumen:
Two iron catalysts supported on MCM-41, with different hydrophobicity degree, were prepared by incipient  wetness impregnation and tested in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS). In order to obtain a narrow distribution of oxide crystal sizes, MCM-41 was chosen as support. The hydrophobicity degree was varied by surface sililation. The solids were characterized by atomic absorption spectrometry, N2 adsorption, X ray diffraction, gravimetric thermal analysis, infrared spectroscopy and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The surface hydrophobicity  increase, in Fe/MCM-41 system, led to a more active catalytic solid in FTS. Besides, the Fe crystal location inside the framework channels inhibits the hydrocarbon chain grow with an increase in the selectivity towards to C4. The use of a higher reaction temperature than the standard one used in FTS was necessary due to the microcrystals location inside the MCM-41 channels.
