Elimination of VOCs by manganese oxides produced by leaching of alkaline batteries in a bio-reactor - VI Encontro sobre Aplicacoes Ambientais de Processos Oxidativos Avancados - Rio de janeiro 2011 By recycling alkaline batteries it was obtained manganese oxides that were active in the ethanol total oxidation reaction. The solids obtained by electrolysis of the lixiviated medium, were more active than the oxides remained after the leaching process. Washing the solids several times with deionized water remove sulfur and improves the catalytic activity of the solids.
