Resumen:
During the last decade, renewable fuels have become an important focus of research in theenergy field, likewise the building block derived from biomass waste search for sustainablealternative due to the increasing world energy demand. In this sense, the catalytic valorization ofglycerol, generated from biodiesel production, with carbonyl compounds, as molecules derivedfrom lignocellulosic biomass waste, by the acetalization reaction has application as bio-additives foroil and biofuels industry. Bio-additives improves the cold and antioxidant properties ofbiodiesel and diesel therefore enhancing engine performance, offering a sustainable alternative. In this work, the acetalization reaction of ethylene glycol with furfural as molecules derivedfrom biomass to obtain 2,2-furfuyl-1,3-dioxolane was investigated, in order to establish the reactionconditions with a simpler polyol molecule than glycerol.
