SUMMARY. Ascaridole, a cyclic endoperoxide, is the main pharmacologically active constituent of the medicinal plant named “paico” (Chenopodium Ambrosioides L.). The use of infusions and decotions of the above mentioned vegetal as antihelmintic medicine in humans arouse a scientific debate on the toxic properties and therapeutic effect of ascaridole. The thermal stability of that substance in water is considered important to asses its activiuty because between their product´s reaction at the decoction temperatures are found hidroperoxydic substances potencially toxic. Thus, the kinetic of the thermal stability of ascaridole was investigated in the 100o-150°C temperature range. The activation parameters values for the initial unimolecular homolysis of that molecule in aqueous solutions had been evaluated.
