Resumen:
Southern right whales (Eubalaena australis) (SRW) are present in all southern hemisphere oceans. Península Valdés (PV, 42° 31? S, 63° 55′ W), Argentina, is a major breeding ground where SRW aggregate every year from June-December. Since 2003, the Southern Right Whale Health Monitoring Program has conducted postmortem examinations of SRW found dead at PV. Vertebral pathology has been documented in captive and wild cetaceans from both baleen (Mysticeti) and toothed whales (Odontoceti). This study describes the first case of skeletal system disease in southern right whales.
