Resumen:
Nearctic shorebirds breed in North America and migratesouth to pass the non-breeding period in coastal andinland wetlands of South and Central America. Myresearch characterized and compared the helminth communitiesof two nearctic migratory shorebirds, Baird?sSandpiper Calidris bairdii (hereafter BASA) and WhiterumpedSandpiper Calidris fuscicollis (hereafter WRSA)in Argentine Patagonia. I described the taxonomic compositionof the helminths, the prevalence and abundanceof each parasite species, and overall richness and diversity, and evaluated the factors that influence the communitystructure. This allowed me to characterize the position ofthe host within the trophic web, use of habitat, and theenvironmental health of the ecosystems.
