Resumen:
Selection of cyclopoid copepods for predation experiments upon mosquito larvae revealed the presence in Argentina of Diacyclops uruguayensis which is known from Uruguay and Brazil. This species was originally described from pools located east ofMontevideo,Uruguay. A widespread sampling of Uruguayan streams in the western basin of that country failed to record this species. Neither did it appear in samples from the freshwater section of the Rio de la Plata in a survey performed within the FREPLATA Project in 2001. None of these absences are surprising, since D. uruguayensis seems to be confined to shallow, ephemeral environments. In view of the above, the abundance of the species in thenortheastern coastal region of the province of Buenos Aires should be ascribed to a recent introduction
