Resumen:
Abstract Cornops aquaticum BRUNER (1906) is a native Latin-American grasshopper frequently associated with Eichhornia azurea, a characteristic macrophyte of lakes in Argentina and southern Brazil. The aim of this research was to determine the age structure of C. aquaticum populations in a permanent lake site at Corrientes (Argentina), where E. azurea represented the only host plant. Between February 2004 and April 2006 monthly samples were taken with a net of 70 cm of diameter. We separated adults, minor nymphs (stage I and II) and major nymphs (III to VI,) and registered ovary maturation stages. Adults were found in all sampling dates whereas minor nymphs were absent during the coldest months. The results suggest that C. aquaticum shows different reproduction periods within the lake studied.
