Resumen:
We performed an observational-retrospective study to measure the number of strips used for self-monitoring blood glucose (SMBG) at the Social Security system (SSS) in Argentina and its relationship with type of treatment and degree of metabolic control. We used registries from the Pharmaceutical College of the Buenos Aires province (COLFARMA, 8115 anonymized recipes of drugs and strips prescribed; February-April 2012) and from one SSS organization (OSPERYH, 681 affiliates, strip consumption plus laboratory data; year 2010). Statistical analysis included ANOVA, t-test, Mann-Whitney and Kruskall-Wallis. In OSPERYH, strips were provided under an audit system that assessed diabetes education, type of treatment and degree of metabolic control. Monthly overall average consumption significantly related to type of treatment and degree of metabolic control (HbA1c
