Resumen:
Here we show development-relatedchanges in the leaf apoplast, particularly those associated with natural anddark-induced senescence. Proteomic dissection of the apoplastic fluid (AF)reveals marked changes between senescent and non-senescent leaves. Interestingly, the amount ofapoplastic proteins and amino acids (a.a.) decreases during senescence. Inaddition, the apoplastic volume increases in senescent leaves and this changecomes along with an alkalization of the AF. Altogether, these findings suggesta crucial role of this compartment in nutrient remobilization.
