Resumen:
Natural products have played a significant role in the discovery of new drugs, being the main source of active principles1. Therefore, searching for leading compounds from natural products is an important approach as a strategy for drug development2. The analysis of the national situation on research and development in natural compounds, Argentina INNOVADORA 2020 recognizes that throughout the country are located several research groups dedicated to the experimental study of active substance of natural origin3. These are located mainly in universities or centers for research. Even so, there is no computer platform in which experimental information of isolated and characterized compounds is stored. Unfortunately, despite the fact that this information is obtained in many cases with elaborate scientific research, absence of promotion reduces the potential impact. Collecting this knowledge generated in a database is a way to safeguard it and have access to this information in a more efficient and orderly manner. This problem becomes the motivation of this work, which proposes knowledge management in an open "library of compounds" that facilitates systematic search for new chemical compounds of potential commercial value in the biodiversity of Argentina. The development of the NaturAr database (naturar.quimica.unlp.edu.ar), a public access platform that allows to collect, safeguard and disseminate information about compounds isolated from autochthonous natural sources will contribute to the discovery of new compounds with potential pharmaceutical applications . In addition,it will encourage interaction and collaboration between several national research groups.NaturAr is operational but some functions are currently in development. The basic layout of the database can be seen in the next diagram, while a detailed diagram as well as the progress of the platform can be found in the following repository http://github.com/lavecchia/naturardb.The database dissemination, and thanks to contributions from researchers that work in the area, will help to generate a common place of exchange and diffusion for Argentine pharmacognosy and phytochemistry groups.
