ANTIDEPRESSANT ACTIVITY OF SERTRALINE DERIVED COMPOUNDS

Depression is asevere health problem in pharmacotherapy, characterized by several symptomssuch as the existence of sad, emptyness, or irritable moods, together withsomatic and cognitive changes that considerably affect the individual?scapacity.1Here, a new chemical strategy for the development of novel compounds fordepression treatment and other psychiatric disorders has been developed. Wehave succeeded in obtaining new compounds which are capable of displaying thecombined benefits of sertraline and an essential element such as zinc or anantioxidant compound in order to get better antidepressant and negative side Both substances were characterized byphysicochemical methods and the antidepressant activity was evaluated throughthe forced swimming test in rats (FST: predicts the efficacy of antidepressanttreatment and it is used to investigate mechanisms of action).In both cases a decrease of the immobilitytime compared to the control group has been observed: -42% SerHCCA and -46% (SerH2)2[ZnCl4],showing an improvement of the antidepressant activity over the commercial drugsertraline (SerH2Cl, -15.2 %).
