Resumen:
Our investigation group has previously performed studies focused on the characterization and analysis of potential biological and/or pharmacological applications of methimazole-Cu(II) complexes. Recently we demonstrated that these complexes exhibited good antioxidant activity, some of them showed antibacterial and antifungal activity and all of them were able to be carried by bovine serum albumin (BSA, bioavailability).1-3 Methimazole is a well known antithyroid drug used to treat hyperthyroidism. In this work we present studies concerning to the determination of the in vitro anti-hyperthyroid activity for methimazole and the new ternary complex [Cu(Met)2(phen)(H2O)2]Cl2] (Met=methimazol, phen= phenanthroline) based on the charge transfer complex formation.
