High-intensity synchrotron IR micro-spectroscopy is used to gain detailed insights into the templating and calcination process for microporous materials. In combination with polarisation the orientation of templates with respect to crystallographic axis is observable. In-situ monitoring of the template decomposition is accessible using a Linkam cell set-up. In this study the concept was successfully applied to single-crystals of SAPO STA-7 and MgAPO STA-15. Linking these experimental results to computational methods enables models for the orientation and geometry of the templates within the channels and cages to be developed.
