Resumen:
Propylthiouracil (PTU) is an antithyroid drug, thiourea derivative, which works by blocking the production of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), the main hormones that are synthesized in the thyroid gland. Its chemical name is 6-Propyl-2-thiouracil (PTU) should be reserved for patients who can not tolerate methimazole and in whom radioactive iodine therapy (I-131) or surgery are not appropriate for managing hyperthyroidism. The PTU was approved by the FDA in 1947 and is H03BA02 ATC code. The objective of this work is to study the dissolution profiles of the complex [Cu (PTU)2]2 synthesized and compared with dissolution profiles of propylthiouracil (API), because this complex show superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity.
