Resumen:
As part of our program on the pyrolytic conversion of biomass into high value chemicals, we have been concerned with the synthetic application of levoglucosenone (1) as a chiral building block in the development of new tools for asymmetric synthesis. This bicyclic enone is the major product from the pyrolysis of cellulose or cellulose-containing material such as waste paper. During the last decade levoglucosenone has been intensively used as chiral synthon in the synthesis of a wide variety of natural and unnatural products [1]. Our interest in this field is focused on the potential use of 1 in the synthesis of new chiral inductors and the study of their application in asymmetric organic transformations.
