Resumen:
CytC is a membrane-associated redox protein involved in fundamental biological processes (e.g. respiration, apoptosis, detoxification and gas sensing). CytC cycles between two redox states of the heme cofactor Fe2+/Fe3+. Redox activity is influenced by local membrane electric fields, whileistinct structural states of the protein are also important (e.g. in apoptosis). CytC s able to perform several biotransformations like epoxidations, hydroxylations and demethylations in vitro. Here we report the use of specific incorporation of probes via genetic encoded by engineered biocatalytic machinery of the living cells to determine how do the membrane electric fields influence CytC electrostatic features, structure and function.
