Resumen:
The redox chemistry of Mn is reflected in the active site of specialized enzyme systems such as manganese catalases (MnCATs) that serve as the frontline molecular defense against H2O2 in a number of organisms. A number of mononuclear Mn complexes have shown CAT activity, for which efficiency seems to be related to the presence of at least one labile coordination position on the Mn ion1. Mononuclear Mn complexes with the six coordination sites of the metal occupied by donor sites of the ligand becomes exceptional cases also exhibiting CAT activity, for which little is known. In order to get insights about this point, we introduce a new mononuclear MnIII complex obtained from the hexadentate N3O3 ligand 1-[N-(2-pyridylmethyl),N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)amino]-3-[N?-(2-hydroxybenzyl),N?-(4-methylbenzyl)amino]propan-2-ol (H3L)2. We also describe characterization, properties, catalase-like activity and a comparison with other manganese catalysts of different nuclearity.
