Humic substances behaviour in the lower basin of Chubut River (Patagonia- Argentina)

We have investigated the Chubut River Humic Substances (HSs) behaviour in the estuarine and non-estuarine reaches of its lower basin by field observations and by laboratory simulation experiments. Absorbance at 250 nm and conductivity at 20ºC were used as indicative parameter of HSs and total dissolved solids respectively. The HSs transported by the river through the non estuarine reaches have a conservative behaviour when there are not inputs of irrigation return and drainage channels or stormwater. HSs dilution is the principal removal process in the estuary.
