Resumen:
Porphyrinoids such as corroles and their metal complexes have manyinteresting physicochemical, spectroscopic and catalytic properties.Acid-base groups such as carboxylic acid groups can confer watersolubility, help bind the compounds to metal or metal oxide substratesor play a role in catalytic reactions, where proton transfer isinvolved in one or more of the steps. Electron-donating (such asmethoxy) or withdrawing (such as nitro) groups can modulate thespectroscopic and redox properties of the macrocycles. In this work we show the synthesis of cobalt corrolates withcarboxylic ester- and nitro-containing phenyl substituents. We analyzetheir redox and electronic properties through various electrochemicaland spectroscopic methods, as well as (DFT) electronic structurecalculations. We also discuss the effect of apical ligand binding andequilibria on the observed properties, and show preliminary results onwater oxidation catalysis.
