Resumen:
Many microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs) still have limited applicability due to the insufficient sensitivity and the lack of quantitative results. Different approaches have been proposed to circumvent these restrictions, which usually involve bulky laboratory equipment for power supply and/or quantitative readouts. As a novel strategy, this paper presents the concept of universal serial bus (USB)-powered μPADs. The concept was proved by implementing isotachophoresis (ITP) on paper, therefore this work also presents the firstITP-USB-μPAD. The device enables 100-fold sample focusing by applying only 5V, the lowest reported voltage.
