Resumen:
A kinetic model for Fenton and photo-Fenton degradation of paracetamol (PCT) in an annular photoreactor was proposed. The radiation field inside the reactor was taken into account through the Local Volumetric Rate of Photon Absorption, evaluated by assuming a line source model with spherical and isotropic emission. The proposed kinetic model allowed deriving reaction rates for PCT and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Different initial concentrations of H2O2 and ferrous ion (Fe2+) were tested for a same value of initial concentration of PCT. Experimental data were used to implement a nonlinear regression procedure aiming at finding the correlation between experimental and predicted data. Relative root mean square errors resulted in 9.7% and 6.8% for H2O2 and PCT, respectively. Complete PCT removal was achieved under all investigated conditions. Moreover, the use of radiation allowed increasing PCT removal of about 75% and total organic carbon conversion of about 60%.
