Resumen:
Paper-based microfluidic devices for point-of-care testing and clinical diagnostics have gained much interest in the last few years. The success of this technology is mostly due to the advantages of the material itself. The present work aims to highlight another benefit of paper that has not been investigated yet: the remarkable efficiency to achieve transverse dispersion of molecules across adjacent flow streams. This is a key process in several analytical and preparative operations, where the generation of concentration gradients is particularly attractive. The problem is approached by theory, experiments, and numerical simulations to rationally design chip operations.
