Resumen:
The synthesis of new polymers based on renewable resources such as vegetable oils is presently a relevant area of research. Due to its unusual chemical composition, Castor Oil (CO) is attractive for its many potential applications. For example, without any chemical modification, CO can be used as polyol and/or as crosslinking agent in the production of polyurethanes (PUs). Several articles have been published on the synthesis of PU foams based on CO. However, there are very few publications on its use for the synthesis of segmented thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs). TPUs are commonly synthesized by reaction between a diisocyanate, a macrodiol, and a chain extender. This work investigates the synthesis and characterization of a new macrodiol based on CO for the production of TPUs.
