Resumen:
This study explores and latter on models the existence of sensitization and synergetic effects resulting from the combination of chemical disinfectants (peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide) as well as their efficiency in inactivating pathogenic bacteria. This work examines disinfection of water in a laboratory-scale device using a simulation of the conditions encountered in actual environmental process plants (clear water, controlled pH and temperature). Chemical reactions of oxidizing agents are studied separately and in combination. In the latter, sensitization effects were found first (enzyme inactivation, alteration of cell membrane) and afterwards, the hydrogen peroxide action showing a synergetic (improvement) action was encountered. The full process was mathematically modelled.
