Resumen:
Latex particles are suitable for diagnosis purpose since they are able to interact and form complexes with several biological molecules and macromolecules. However, the application of these nanoparticles to diagnosis is limited due to problems on the visual observation of the positive/negative results. In order to improve the use of latex particles, we synthesized a colored monomer, capable of being copolymerized with vinyl monomers. The former was obtained by reaction between basic fuchsine (BF) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). This work introduces the characterization of the new monomer in terms of its spectroscopic properties, such as UV-Vis, IR, RMN and Mass spectra. The synthesis of colored latex particles by emulsion polymerization of St and functionalized BF was studied under different conditions. The colored latex were characterized by means of monomer conversion, average particle diameter, BF incorporation, surface charge and surface group density. The obtained results confirmed the production of stable latex particles, with controlled size and high BF incorporation.
