Resumen:
The performances of TiO2 coatings doped with different Ag concentrations were compared for the photocatalytic inactivation of dry Bacillus subtilis spores dispersed on TiO2 films and irradiated with UV-A radiation (1.89 mW cm-2) during different periods of time. Two efficiency parameters were calculated: the apparent photonic efficiency and the quantum efficiency of inactivation. The highest photocatalytic inactivation rate was obtained with the sample containing 1.09 wt. % Ag. A decrease on the spores concentration of more than 3 orders of magnitude (from 3.71 x 105 to 1.29 x 102 CFU cm-2) was achieved after 6 h of irradiation. Also, the highest quantum efficiency was obtained with 1.09 wt.% Ag (nabs = 4.18 x 10-14). It should be noted that this value is almost twice the value found with TiO2 without the addition of Ag (nabs = 2.29 x 10-14).
