Resumen:
This work presents a study on the preparation and characterization of mesoporous catalysts with Ag that are able to adsorb toluene during the cold-start at low temperature and hold it up to normal operating temperature of the converter (¡Ý 350¡ãC). MCM-41 and Al-MCM-41 (Si/Al=20) were synthesized with a specific surface of 1218 and 666.1 m2/g, respectively. The pore sizes were obtained between 2 and 4 nm. These mesoporous supports exhibit good adsorption of toluene at 100¡ãC. Zeolitic materials, such as mordenite, have high affinity for the aromatic ring of the toluene molecule. Unlike these, the methyl group has a preferential adsorption on the mesoporous catalysts. An increase of 70% of ¦Ìmol of toluene adsorbed was produced with the addition of 2 wt. % Ag by wet impregnation to the support Al-MCM-41 (Si/Al=20). It can be observed that the impregnated samples begin to release the adsorbed toluene at 200¡ãC and hold it up to 550¡ãC.
