Resumen:
An amorphous and high purity silica was obtained from rice husk, sulfur free, which allows its application as support in metal catalysts. The use of rice husks as a precursor to SiO2 and its application as a support in metal catalysts is of great environmental and economic importance. Ni catalysts were synthesized by wet impregnation over SiO2 and SiO2 modified with Ca, Ba, Sr and La oxides. The addition of the metal oxides have an important effect on the catalytic properties such as particle size, metal dispersion and Ni reducibility. The solids were characterized by different techniques such as XRD, XRF, EDX, TEM, TPR and XPS. They were evaluated in the carbon dioxide methanation reaction in a temperature range between 250 and 400 °C. All solids were active and stable.
