Resumen:
Mono and bimetallic supported palladium and platinum on activated carbon were used in the selective hydrogenation of citral. Hydrogen chemisorption, X-ray spectroscopy (XPS) and reduction programmed temperature (TPR) were applied for the characterization of catalysts under study. Pd-based catalysts (PdN/C, PdCl/C y PdPt/C) showed similar activity (between 30 to 40 %) whereas Pt/C displayed the lowest activity. The selectivity obtained for Pd-based catalysts was varied different reactions products such as menthol and unsaturated alcohols, of industrial importance, were obtained. Electron-defficient metal-species, chlorine amount over carbon surface and the modification of surface groups during the synthesis of the catalysts, can play an important role on the selectivity obtained.
