Resumen:
The hydrothermal stability of the catalyst is a very important characteristic to be considered in the design of solid catalysts for aqueous phase reactions such as the aqueous phase reforming (APR) of polyols that take place at moderate temperatures and pressures and in the presence of a large excess of water. In this work, new supports were prepared by chemical deposition (CVD) of a carbon film on the surface of SiO2 using methane and the effect of this treatment on the stability of the solid tested in APR conditions was analyzed. The support stability improves with the increase of the carbon content up to a carbon content close to the monolayer. The most stable support was impregnated with Pt (Pt/(SC-6)). The same technique (CVD using methane) was used to protect a previously prepared Pt/SiO2 catalyst with a C monolayer, obtaining the material (Pt/S)C-6. These solids were tested in APR of sorbitol and (Pt/S)C-6 was the most promising catalyst for the selective production of H2 showing a catalytic behavior (H2 yield or H2 productivity) even higher than Pt/Al2O3
