Resumen:
In this work results obtained with bimetallic catalysts supported on ion exchange resins for the reduction ofnitrates in water are shown. Pd-Cu and Pd-In catalysts were synthesized over a commercial anionic resin, varying the metal concentrations and their molar ratio. The catalysts were characterized by XRD andevaluated in reaction using a process patented by the working group. The Pd-In catalysts proved to be moreactive than the Pd-Cu catalysts of identical metal load and molar ratio. It was determined that the Pd-Incatalysts with molar ratios of 4:1, 10:1 and 40:1 showed a similar reaction behavior. It was shown that whenthe 40:1 ratio is used the Pd content can be decreased to 0,4% without altering the catalytic performance. Thecatalyst with the best behavior and the lowest metallic load was the one containing 0,4% Pd with 40:1 molarratio. The stability of this catalyst was evaluated, and it was observed that it maintains its activity during 18consecutive cycles, which means that both the catalyst and the developed process allow to make watercontaminated with nitrates drinkable.
