Resumen:
A series of Pd-Sn catalysts were synthesized, with different metal loads and Pd/Sn ratios, and supported on an anionic macroporous resin. Their nitrates reduction capacity was evaluated using a novel potabilization process. In the first stage, the contaminated water is treated by an ion exchange process. In a second stage (regeneration), the nitrates reduction is performed at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure, passing an H2 stream across the catalytic bed. It was observed that after the ion exchange stage, the treated water meets the WHO standards. The nitrates reduction results showed that the Pd-Sn catalysts are very active, and the best performance was obtained with the Pd(2%)-Sn(0.5%) formulation. Moreover, this activity was maintained for at least 16 consecutive cycles, therefore, over 4500 volumes were treated.
